Austin Engineering’s Roles:

Project Description:

Austin Engineering worked with Caterpillar to produce a campus-wide master plan for their Edwards Demonstration Center. The design called for blending the campus into the native Illinois landscape, indicative of the Midwest and Caterpillar’s heritage. Design development plan sets included a carefully located helicopter landing pad, observation pavilion with an information kiosk, HSS pergola system, sidewalk design, monument sign design and locations, and equipment display mounds placed within the native planting designs.

The Caterpillar learning facility itself is located on 720 acres of unspoiled Illinois prairie. Its location and site design aim to provide a beautiful backdrop for those learning and teaching while exemplifying Caterpillar’s vision of people and products uniting to better utilize, improve and preserve our land’s natural resources. Caterpillar instructors use the facility to train businesses on the operation of Caterpillar equipment in a safe and open environment.

Project Highlights:

  • Austin Engineering had the chance to contribute to site development work for one of Illinois’ and the world’s greatest and most successful industrial equipment manufacturers.
  • A test of Austin Engineering’s creativity in landscape design, with creating a pavilion, using planters, and strategically placing Caterpillar machinery displays.
